March 7th marks the 129th anniversary of the telephone.
Though the patent was issued to Alexander Graham Bell,
he had actually been experimenting with audio technology,
aimed at creating a hearing device for the deaf. Bell got to
the patent office, however, a mere two hours before Elisha Gray,
who had developed a similar contraption.
It's all in the timeing.
